I suggested before that there is a forming camp within the Arab group existing on its own, and has a basic regional extent reaches Iran. This new camp wants to impose itself on this region and its realities, and create a significant role in the region for its component parties, by any means and at any expense. Therefore, against the Arab moderate camp, this partial new camp adopts radicalism and uses extremism and extremist entities in the region for its advantage and in its above endeavor.
This new camp has announced itself in many regional occasions. However, the most important appearance of this camp, in my view, is the latest controversial initiative by this camp inviting to an emergency Arab summit on the Gaza situation in Qatar, which came in a suspicious context and in sensitive timing and implication. It is widely thought among leading Arab moderate countries that this step is meant to confuse their efforts and diplomatic campaign, especially the Egyptian active role, to achieve a ceasefire and a settlement for Gaza current situation.
The Qatar’s invitation, which was strongly backed by the Syrian regime, has failed in ensuring the required majority to hold the summit. This constitutes a victory for the leading Arab moderate camp and the Arab national security. However, upon the insistence of Qatar and the forming new camp, a meeting was held with the participation of some Arab leaders.
Apart from the participation of the Sudanese President, the suspect of crimes against humanity and waiting for an international arrest warrant, and the Syrian Baath President who is waiting for the international tribunal for Lebanon very shortly, and finally the illegitimate military ruler of Mauritania, it was very remarkable the participation of the Iranian President and Hamas’ leader from Damascus. It is very indicative, in this regard, the type of participants as dictators, suspects of crimes at international level, anti-democracy military despots, extremists, radicals and violent thugs. Besides, the absolute majority of participants are leaders of countries and entities that are subject to international sanctions and international isolation.
However, the serious indication of this above Qatar meeting is that Iran has the ability to split the Arab group. This is some new reality at least in such a public and obvious way. Actually, Iran showed that it could expand beyond its traditional extent in the region marked by its totalitarian extremist camp in the region consisting of Baath in Syria, Hezbullah and Hamas.
This actually took the Iranian expansionism and intervention in the Arab region to a further level with this new practical role carried out by Qatar. Moreover, there is also another serious implication of this question that there is an available chance of spreading extremism and radicalism in the region through this forming Arab split and its related above-mentioned realities along with Iran’s related efforts in this regard.
