I suggested in a previous article that Iranian regime is going after a nuclear bomb, and the Iranian nuclear program is ultimately intended to achieve this goal. No one, especially in the Middle East should have any illusions about this clear question, which has conclusive indications including the Iranian confession of lying to the IAEA about the Iranian nuclear program from its beginnings.

On the other side, Israel has stated and adopted steady policy that no country of its neighbors in the Middle East should have nuclear capabilities as it might endanger Israel or its very existence. This policy is considered by Israel of existential nature and importance.

In this regard, Israel took all opportunities to make this policy abundantly clear to the Middle East countries in particular and all concerned international parties in general. This was done mainly through the Israeli strike of the Iraqi nuclear reactor in 1981, in addition to its latest strike of the suspected Syrian nuclear reactor, which reaffirmed this policy in a very practical way.

This latest Israeli strike in Syria in spite of its very good relations with the Syrian Baath regime and the huge support provided by Israel to this regime, especially in the question of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, assures Israel’s policy in this regard and sends a clear message to Iran. Then, this strike had two equal Syrian and Iranian goals in addition to conveying an Israeli message to the international concerned parties in this regard.

Now, all eyes are aimed at the Iranian nuclear program as Iran is approaching the point in which it able to produce a nuclear bomb. It is just months away, or a few years at best, according to international intelligence agencies. There are many indications, in this regard, coming from Israel that it seriously considers an attack on the Iranian nuclear facilities. These indications include political and technical military movements by Israel including military training on such strikes accompanied by Israeli gestures that it is getting ready to such action if the international community would not act on this issue.

Apart from the discussion if Israel’s decision on such strikes belongs to Israel or the United States, which has been implied by the Israeli PM in his latest visit to the Washington, Israel should be aware of the results and consequences of such action considering Iran’s influence on Baath in Syria, Hezbullah and Hamas, and the general status quo and geopolitics in the region. In fact, there are strategic requisites and implications for such action by Israel.

Therefore, Israel should start changing its current strategic position by significantly advancing the peace process with the Palestinian Liberation Organization along with initiating immediate improvements on the Palestinian conditions in the occupied lands. This entails, among many things, ceasing the violations of Palestinian rights and properties and improving life conditions of them, which are extremely hardened by the Israeli occupation.

In general, it should be well stated and known that any Israeli successful policies and courses of action aimed at preserving Israel’s existence should definitely entail settling the Palestinian question and the Palestinian independence.

Hence, there should be a significant advancement on the Palestinian side before an Israeli successful and efficient action on Iranian nuclear issue.
