Starting International Diplomatic Process on Gaza: The Nascent Military-Political Balance

As I previously wrote that given the very bad and serious humanitarian situation in Gaza strip, Israel has just a few days, or a very little time of space by the leading international powers, to enforce some changes on the ground against Hamas. This prediction now can be perceived through the active diplomatic movement of various regional and international parties.

The tenth day of Gaza operation is marked by the activation of the diplomatic regional and international efforts to achieve a ceasefire along with a settlement of Gaza question. This current international movement, which was almost absent prior to this point, clearly indicates a gradually forming international perception that now it should be the countdown of Gaza military operation.

This international perception is received by Israel. This Israeli reality can be inferred from the military operation’s facts, as the military actions has been intensified in the latest hours in an obvious Israeli quick pursuit to enforce a new reality on the ground against Hamas. This intended new reality is indispensable to extract the political results from it, and the political significance based on it. These results are essential to enable the concerned parties to conceive appropriate and realistic political proposals could be acceptable and applicable as a durable settlement of this question.

In this regard, there is a problem about the lasting inconclusive state of the situation in Gaza consequent upon the Gaza operation at the military and political levels so far. Therefore, there is a consequent key question about the diplomatic active efforts, and the related ability of various parties to form applicable political proposals consistent with the current developments and their inconclusive consequences. In fact, this is the reason why this active diplomatic movement has not unveiled settlement proposals yet.

However, the diplomatic initiative has been started by various regional and international parties’ related efforts. This definitely indicates the launching of the political process seeking the settlement of Gaza question. Hence, the military operation has not been the only activity to produce the new reality in Gaza any more; it is now associated with an international political process in this regard. This will change the situation into a new nascent balance between the two domains.
